Raw Banana or green Banana or Plantain can be used in many different ways. It is not sweet in taste and doesn’t have any strong flavor of its own. Green Bananas are a power house of vitamins and minerals, they are rich in potassium, vitamin c, calcium, and healthy for diabetics too.
Green Banana can be used as a substitute for potatoes. Many people avoid eating potatoes for health. Dishes like samosa, parathas, pattice, Vadas, chips, fries everything can be made with raw banana.
Jains who do not use roots vegetables use green banana as a substitute. And like many other Indian dishes, it is vegan, as this recipe doesn’t require any butter or milk, so it is vegan friendly and healthy.
You can try the following dishes with raw banana and ripen banana
Check which banana to use-
Always try to use a fully raw banana which is not ripe at all. Otherwise, dishes will have some sweet flavor. As green banana nothing tastes like ripen one. That is why it is used in making curries, fries, and spicy dishes.
This raw banana khichadi tastes very much like sago khichadi. It is salty and a little sweet because of pomegranate. Pomegranate gives a very little sweet flavor and doesn’t let it taste dry. You can make it for breakfast as it will keep you full and energetic for a long time.
Preparation time- 5 minutes Cooking time- 30 minutes
Raw/Green Banana- 3
Green chilly- 3
Mustard seeds- 1tsp
Red pepper powder- 1/2tbsp
Salt to taste
Pomegranate seeds 3tbsp
Take all the chilies and either chop them or cut them into half.
Take a handful of peanuts and crush them a very little and clean.
How to make banana-
Take bananas cut them into half and put in a pressure cooker with some water or in a pot and place that pot in a pressure cooker with some water in the base. Keep on high flame for around 3-4 minutes. We just want to remove its skin so heat for the minimum time. Don’t boil or overdo. Keep it solid enough that you can grate it.
Now after opening a pressure cooker, peel its skin and grate it.
Now take a pan, heat oil for tempering, put cumin, mustard seeds and hing. Add chilies, turmeric powder, and peanuts and fry for 1-2 minutes.
Mix grated banana in the pan, put red chilly powder, salt, and sugar. Saute for 3-4 minutes.
Add lemon juice and serve with garnishing chopped coriander and pomegranate seeds.
