In India, it is said that if a girl knows how to make round shaped chapatis she is eligible for marriage now. Mothers teach their daughters to cook and it is considered very important that a girl should know basic cooking.
Though time has changed now. But the food isn’t. Man has to eat something. It’s very common in India that women cook. Though now men are learning too. And In this whole cooking chapati plays an Important role.
You must have seen “Indian Thali ” which contains lots of things mainly like veggies, papad, salad, achar, and Chapati. This is popular in the North, western and central regions of India. Lunch and dinner contain mostly Thali where veggies changes and mostly chapati is constant. Though there are different types of chapatis too. Now, this Indian bread is not like the other bread we use for sandwiches or pizzas it’s something different.
People here are so used to having chapati and sabzi for lunch and dinner that after eating 2-3days different dishes, they will need chapati.
Chapati is like bread to eat veggies with. In India we eat from hands this is also made soft that it can be torn out with hands and dip in veggies.
Though many people now avoid gluten but still in India many people are very used to having it. Wheat chapati is most popular among all different flour chapatis.
Let’s make Chapati now-
To make dough-
Ingredients (2-3 chapati)
100gram Wheat flour
1 tea spoon salt
1 tea spoon edible oil
1 cup water
First, take a pot or a plate to make the dough. Put wheat flour and salt. Now slowly add water and start kneading. Don’t put all the water in once otherwise, it will become like batter. Add a very little amount of flour in the last to clean your hands and take some oil and brush it on the dough, so that dough will be soft.
How to make round Chapatis
In the top use vegan ghee or butter or any oil you like and brush it.
