Dal Tadka is made with toor dal. Called by many different names like Toor dal, Arhar dal and in English pigeon pea or red gram.
I think I am not alone to order Dal when we eat out. Dal is very easy to choose and goes with Chapati, Naan, Tandoori every type of Chapati. Mostly it is Tadka Dal or Dal fry for me. Toor Dal ( lentils ) is very popular in some parts of the north, west, and central India.
Many houses holds make Dal every day at lunch. As they cook whole thali like Sabzi, chapati, Dal, Rice. Mostly this dal is Toor Dal.
I learned to make Dal from My grandmother. I belong to Gujrat(State in India) and their people prefer eating Dal a little sweet so either they add sugar or jaggery powder. But I prefer it spicy rather than sweet.
You can use Vegan ghee to make this dal or use Oil instead. Apart from this it is totally vegan.
How to Make Dal Tadka
Ingredients–
Boiled Toor Dal- 1 cup
Tomato -1
Green Chilly-1
3 Tablespoon oil
Hing- Pinch
Cumin seeds-1Teaspoon
Turmeric Powder-1/2 Tablespoon
Salt to taste
Water-1cup
Red pepper-1Tablespoon
Recipe
Heat oil in a pan for tempering(Tadka) of Cumin seeds, hing, and red pepper. Chop tomato properly. Add tomato and chilly in a pan and fry it until tomato starts leaving oil and is properly cooked. It will take approx 5-6min.
In a pot of boiled dal add salt, turmeric powder and put water 1 cup and boil it. You can add more water if Dal looks much thick.
Now add half tadka on boiled daal and lemon juice, mix it. Now put remaining Tadka in dal and serve. You can garnish this with chopped coriander also.
